Abstract:

The litany אבינו מלכנו was recited during the high holidays and especially during Yom Kippur. Another litany, named אלהנו שבשמים , was recited during Yom Kippur in the Sephardic communities. The latter was introduced by Psalm 115:1-3 (compare: Psalm 135). It contains an amalgamation of Psalm 115:1-3 with a list of divine attributes, a fact which has led. N. Wieder to assume that it was influenced by Mualem creed. The argument about Moslem influence, however, can not be maintained as the Qumran discoveries have revealed a liturgical passage not unlike the one found in the litany of Yom Kippur in the Sephardic communities.
