Abstract:

Ulrich presents a short parade of some of the major surprises the biblical scrolls have shown, examines whether the scrolls are merely an irrelevant curiosity or rather, significant evidence for Christianity, shows how the scrolls affect biblical scholarship and offer a sharper focus on the Bible, and raises a few points of significance for theology. He opines that the Dead Sea Scrolls illuminate an important and formative period in the history of the biblical text that has lain shrouded in darkness and provide manuscript documentation for what previously rested on scholarly deconstruction, that is, the connection between the origins and growth of the biblical tradition from its shadowy beginnings and the books of the Bible today.
