התרגומים הארמיים, הפשיטתא, והוולגטה למקרא למול נוסח המסורה
The text-critical analysis of Hebrew Scripture involves the Masoretic Text (MT), the Judean Desert texts, and the ancient translations. As opposed to the frequent use of the LXX and the Dead Sea Scrolls in the textual praxis, we hear little about the T(argumim), S (Peshitta),
and the V(ulgate), because V and T almost always agree with MT and S a little less. This paper summarizes the views of scholars who expressed a detailed view on the closeness of T, S, and V to MT in specific Scripture books or Scripture as a whole. The paper also offers statistical data culled from the BH series and the HUBP. These three versions are mentioned very infrequently in the apparatuses, and almost always in conjunction with other translations. On the other hand, the LXX and the Dead Sea Scrolls are often mentioned with no other sources at their side. We therefore consider T S V to be within the realm of MT. The low level of deviation of T S V from codex L is similar to that of the differences between codex L and the other medieval manuscripts.
