Abstract:

A comparison of Qumran texts with their Tannaitic counterparts reveals traces of ancient halakhic homilies shared by both literatures. Familiarity with this shared literary stratum sheds light on the development of Biblical commentary on the one hand, and the roots of the halakhic heritage on the other. The current lecture illustrates two possible contributions to our knowledge of the history of Halakhah made by the revelation of basic homiletic material.
