Abstract:

The volume contains papers from the meeting of the “International Society for Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature” held at the University of Regensburg, Germany, December 3–6, 2008. The papers focus on the following questions: “What role does the human body, or rather the (sic) human corporeality play in dealing with death, but also the perception of death and resurrection? Also, which anthropologies are tied together with the respective practices and ideas?” The main focus of the collection lies on early Jewish and ancient Christian sources (3rd century B.C.E. ' 3rd century C.E.). Some essays deal with other traditions like the religion of Ptolemaic Egypt, Zoroastrism or ancient Gnosis.
