Abstract:

The Midrash Halakha served as a basic text among the various sects of Jews during the Second Temple era. This can be exemplified by the exposition of a surprising congruence of sources: a law found in the Temple Scroll' dealing with 'profane meat' (Deut. 12:20), that appears in recent Rabbinic Novellae as well, although its provenance was unknown. Even the development of this law, as can be found in the Karaite sources, has found its way into nineteenth-century Rabbinic Law.
