Abstract:

This paper first gives a brief description of the new Discoveries in the Judean Desert (DJD) edition of the two Isaiah Scrolls from Cave One (the Great Isaiah Scroll and the Hebrew University Isaiah Scroll). It then gives an overview, with examples, of the types of variant readings found in 1QIsaa and 1QIsab. The paper concludes with several compelling variant readings that should, or could, be considered as better or more original versions of the text. These readings should be considered for adoption in future translations of the Book of Isaiah.
