The paper offers an integrative analysis of two variant readings found in the text of Exod 12:9 as witnessed by 4Q11 paleoGen-Exodl vis-à-vis the MT and the versions. These variants arguably adapt the text of the scriptural passage to the linguistic standards of the Second Temple period—be they grammatical (נו, for MT נא) or syntactic (ובשל ומבשל, for MT ובשל מבשל). The adaption was motivated primarily by considerations of legal (halakhic) exegesis, which aimed at clarifying the number and nature of the precise ways in which the preparation of the Passover sacrifice should either be followed or avoided.
