"לחם סתרים ינעם"? אכילה ושתייה כלשון נקייה ליחסי אישות במקרא, בספר בן סירא ובספרות חז"ל
Euphemisms are often used in the Holy Bible, in the book of Ben Sira, and in Rabbinical literature. This article discusses the use of euphemisms relating to bread and water, eating and drinking, and even some kitchen tools, as a substitute for more explicit words referring to sexual relationships. The first part of the article treats the use of euphemisms in Scripture. Then bread, its names and ingredients are discussed at length because of the multitude of examples in which bread and its preparation methods are highlighted. Finally, I deal with numerous instances in which verbs and nouns from the world of gastronomy are employed as euphemisms.
