In this article I have pointed to several ways in which Josephus deals with the repetitions and doublets in the Hebrew Bible. In some cases, he repeats almost verbatim the traditional form, while in others he omits it. Josephus is not indebted in this to the LXX, in which all the specified repetitions are found (with some modifications) in accordance with the MT. It is difficult to predict when Josephus will include the repetition as in the MT and when he will choose to omit it. However, where repetitions were omitted, the decision may have stemmed from his desire not to tire the reader. When he did choose to include it, he may not have considered the case as a duplicate, but rather believed that separate and different stories are presented, each with its own contribution to the understanding of the narrative.
