"His Hand Shall Establish You": 4QPsx / 4QPs89 as Reworked Scripture for an Eschatological Setting

In studies of the Qumran fragment 4QPsx / 4QPsalm89, which has preserved parts of the biblical Psalm 89 with a different verse order and numerous text variants, it has been claimed that the text is either an early form of the psalm or - alternatively - a secondary version. The present article argues that the author of the Qumran text has revised and adapted the biblical psalm by describing an eschatological scenario in which he introduces a figure chosen by God to assist the chosen community in the end times.
