Abstract:

In 4 Q 403 1, I, 38-46 various parts of the heavenly temple are not inanimate objects but rather living beings who are able to join with the heavenly hosts and sing praises to God. The same idea seems to lie behind several texts in the Revelation to John, including 9, 13-14 ('I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar before God, saying') and 3, 12 ('He who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God').
