Abstract:

This article investigates the different textual versions of the opening section of the Praise of the Ancestors in the book of Ben Sira (Sir 44-50). It highlights traces of scribal activity which happened either deliberately or unconsciously and thereby illustrates how transmitters and translators did not only change the text but produced new meanings and textual references.
