On the basis of Sir 31:12–24, a chapter about the topic of the behaviour at the table, the contribution shows that the different language versions (Hebrew, Greek, Syrian) of the Book of Ben Sira in this text are not owed to different “Vorlagen”, but rather set their own substantive emphases. In turn, conclusions concerning the respective hermeneutics of the translation can be drawn.
