Plotting History and Textual Use on a New Map of Second Temple Literature: A Response to Molly M. Zahn
Molly Zahn’s proposed four-variable classification system for Second Temple literature presents a suggestive way beyond the ossified and often-anachronistic single-variable schemes commonly employed. This article suggests that a consideration of each text’s history, both actual and internally claimed, could be a useful addition to the proposed multi-variable classification of texts. It also asks how this classification system could be used to improve on the existing print anthologies of Second Temple literature.
