Abstract:

The progress of papyrology allows to invalidate the hypothesis that the Book of Wisdom would have been written after the battle of Actium. The Egyptian apocalyptic literature invites to recognize that the work was written as a eulogy of Cleopatra II, after the return to power of the queen in 124. The Jewish partisans of Ptolemy VIII Physcon are painted there as the heirs, impious and foolish, of the Egyptians of the time of Moses. In front of them, the Jewish supporters of the queen describe themselves as persecuted righteous, and they bring Cleopatra II closer to the figure of Divine Wisdom.
