Abstract:

The article examines the first chapter of the pseudepigraphical document "Jubilees" to see how the concept of repentance and restoration from exile was understood in Second Temple Judaism. The author believes the document's account of salvation undermines the popular view held by many scholars that Second Temple Judaism subscribed to the belief of human initiation of Israel's restoration based upon the nation's repentance.
