Abstract:

Gestures in the context of worshipping do not often receive the close attention that they merit. In the book of Tobit one finds that the largest number of bodily expressions in this context are being performed by a female, by Sarah. This observation invites a comparison with the activities of two other females, Hannah (1 Sam 1-2) and Judith, in similar situations. In respect of bowing, the terminology used by the author makes an interesting distinction between the cultic and the non cultic spheres.
