Abstract:
It is widely acknowledged that חסד, which occurs 245 times in the Hebrew Bible, is extremely difficult to translate into English - and, for that matter, into many other languages. There is no single equivalent for חסד in our language. Leon Morris draws attention to the difficulties translators have experienced, and he notes the great variety of words used to translate חסד.
