Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between prophecy and apocalyptic. It argues that apocalyptic writers regarded the apocalyptic visionaries of their creation as divine mediators in continuity with the activity of the ancient prophets. The apocalyptic writers, however, recognized that divine mediation had been transformed over time. The roots of this transformation are located in the increasing textualization of prophecy.
