The Wisdom Discourse of Tobit as Instruction in Torah
The Book of Tobit strongly endorses almsgiving and endogamy as normative for righteousness in
exile. The formulation of these practices in the narrative, however, surpasses what is decreed in the Law of
Moses. This short essay shows how the narrative employs certain literary details in order to convey Tobit’s
commands as an instruction in the ways of Torah.
