Geschichte Israels

This textbook illustrates the "History of Israel" from the prehistory and earliest datable records of Israel/Judah to the Bar-Kochba revolt 132-135 AD. Against the background of current research, it provides an overview, that is indispensable for exegesis and theological studies. The book takes into account all available sources: next to the bible, archaeology, epigraphy and iconography. In methodological respect, the value of sources as well as the limits of reconstructing "Ancient Israel" are considered. The latest findings of archaeological and historical research are introduced and linked to the biblical evidence in a critical manner. This approach achieves an impression of the history of ancient Israel within the context of the Southern Levant, often familiar but also fresh and unexpected.
