Abstract:

Sirach 10,9–11 describes an arrogant king who comes to his death very suddenly. While previous scholarship has focused on Ptolemy IV and Antiochus III as the probable historical referents, it is argued here that the mysterious death of Alexander the Great is more likely to be the model.
