Abstract
This study offers a novel interpretation of Ben Sira 11:34b, suggesting that the emendation zariz (diligent) and the reading misokan (steward) warn against a highly competent servant who might estrange his master from his family. This reading is strongly supported by orthographic interchanges of sin/samekh, wisdom literature themes, and a parallel Aramaic proverb from the Genizah.
