XQPhyl 4: Revisiting Yadin's Undeciphered Phylactery

This study is an attempt at deciphering XQPhyl 4, a slip of tefillin that was published by Yigael Yadin back in 1969. Yadin, who was able to read only a few words on this slip, suggested that it contained Exod 13:1-10. Our new transcription of XQPhyl 4 confirms Yadin’s suggestion. Moreover, the newly-read text yields multiple variant readings shedding light on the early transmission of Exodus 13.
