Abstract

The suffering of Tobit and Sarah through their individual stories in chapters 1-3 of the "Book of Tobit" and the divine response to their cries for help, as detailed throughout the remaining chapters of the book, are examined. With Tobit and Sarah, the readers recognize the presence of God in their lives, and find a concrete means for alleviating their own suffering and that of others in the shared experience of laughter and celebration.
