Abstract:

The importance of the Old Testament terminology, especially for its influence on New Testament usage, is well recognized. The parallel influence of the Old Testament terminology on usage at Qumran has considerable relevance for this area of biblical study, and it forms the subject of the following paper, prepared by Dr. Garnet at St. Mary’s College, St. Andrews, while he was on sabbatical leave from his post at Loyola College, Montreal. The paper may be regarded as a sequel to his McGill University doctoral thesis on “Atonement Ideas in the Qumran Scrolls”.
