Abstract:

While working in the Historical Hebrew Dictionary Project of the Academy of the Hebrew Language, just after the publication of DJD VII (1982), I proposed by] your ]‘ [וב[ר̇וב ךו̇חגה גאל̇]תנו] a new reading of 4Q504 5 ii 4 (p. 156). I read let us ‘ [ובך נחגה גאל]תנו°[ ] great power you have redeemed [us]’, instead of celebrate [o being a substitution kaf. This ךוחגה ur] redemption’, the gimel of substitution is to be understood as an attraction the gimel in the following word supported by the phonetic similarity between g and k. ,[גאל]תנו
